Ceres2030 Deep Dives – From evidence to action
The virtual event will present findings from the Ceres2030 Deep Dives into Food Systems, Climate Change, and Diets, organised by GIZ’s Knowledge for Nutrition (K4N) programme in collaboration with the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate.
Building on the original Ceres2030 – Sustainable Solutions to End Hunger study, these Deep Dives provide evidence-based, cost-effective interventions for transforming food systems, enhancing climate resilience, and improving diets. The Ceres2030 reports explore strategies to transform agrifood systems, with country Deep Dives focusing on Malawi, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Cambodia, and Zambia.
The studies, conducted by IFPRI, IISD, and in the second phase by the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate, offer costed roadmaps to eradicate hunger, improve diet quality, enhance smallholder productivity, and address climate change. Findings highlight the need for an additional USD 10 billion annually (2023–2030), with USD 5.8 billion expected from donors, to close funding gaps in food systems ODA and prevent future crises. Key interventions include investment in agricultural R&D, rural infrastructure, social protection, and climate adaptation - all essential for reducing undernourishment, improving diet access, boosting smallholder incomes, and strengthening resilience to climate shocks.
The event will provide a platform to discuss how these findings have been used in partner countries to shape policies and investment priorities. It will also serve as a timely reflection ahead of the UNFSS+4 stocktaking event, with country representatives sharing insights on implementing key interventions, from crop diversification to social protection. These discussions will further align Ceres2030 evidence with global policymaking and investment strategies for food systems transformation.
