From global commitments to national action: Strengthening agenda coherence through food systems

15 January 202609:00 - 11:30(CET)online

Food systems offer a prism throughout which we can address multiple objectives: food security, healthy diets, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. This has been recognised at the international level with the integration of agrifood systems in nationally determined contributions (NDCs), in the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and in the  commitments supporting sustainable diets.

The discussions held during COP30 provide insights for finding coherence between global agendas without undermining national trajectories or implementation modalities.

An upcoming webinar to strengthen coherence

This webinar will provide a strategic dialogue between francophone countries in Africa to analyse how the convergence of agendas at the global level is translating at the national level. Representatives from national task forces on food systems from Benin, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea and Madagascar will share their experiences, highlighting progress, challenges and lessons learnt.

Specifically, the webinar will:

  • Discuss the key issues emerging from recent international discussions, in particular COP30, in connection with food systems.
  • Analyse the convergences and trade-offs between the climate, biodiversity, and nutrition agendas from a systemic perspective.
  • Examine how this convergence is translated at the national level, through the public policies, strategic frameworks, and implementation mechanisms.
  • Assess the implications of a systemic approach for policy coherence, financing frameworks, and multisectoral governance.

Speakers:

  • Francine Picard, Shamba Centre for Food and Climate
  • Lambo Tiana Fabien Randriambololona, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Madagascar
  • Dr Abderrahmane Sidi El Moctar, negotiator on climate on behalf of Africa
  • Ophélie Hemonin, UN Food Systems Coordination Hub

  • Armelle Siopathis, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Central African Republic
